DR. MARINDA'S VIRTUAL HUB
trauma, urban schools, youth development, community training, teacher training
Welcome to my virtual hub, where I stay connected with those I've trained and those I'm yet to train. Here, I'm igniting a movement, and it culminates with our youth screaming like their voices matter, because now, finally, we're truly listening.

HELLO. I'M MARINDA & THIS IS SCREAMLSL
Pairing Understandings of Trauma with Understandings of Young People
I am a trauma-informed adolescent researcher who teaches parents and adults how to hear the screams of our children, and children how not to silence their own screams.
My work is not only timely but also critical for guiding educators (and others in similar fields or doing similar work or facing similar concerns) toward effective, inclusive, and empathetic practices in the aftermath of unprecedented global challenges.
The data collection for my most recent research project spanned the years 2020 to 2023, a period marked by the murder of George Floyd in May 2020 and the global COVID-19 pandemic. These events left an indelible imprint on many (although not all) of the stories shared by my research participants, urban K-12 teachers, and their evolving teaching identities.
The stories of teachers and helpers continue to reflect the emotional toll of the pandemic, illustrating the need to balance professional and personal identities amidst unprecedented changes.
Thus, my work continues to serve as a valuable resource for educators, researchers, and policymakers seeking to navigate the complexities of post-pandemic education with a commitment to equity and justice.

"I genuinelly don't want anyone else doing our professional development training, ever. Like, ever. If I could afford it, I would hire you every month of the year. Thanks for always being on your game."

Services

I invest in various forms of youth development training. Through targeted lessons in communication, resilience, trauma, diversity, identity-based bullying, and college prep, I help young people build the skills they need to succeed. With a focus on practical, real-world applications, I work with schools to ensure that every student has the tools they need to thrive.

Organizations benefit from fostering inclusive, empathetic, and supportive cultures that recognize and address the potential impact of trauma on individuals, especially considering the intersectionality of race and work experiences. My training addresses these issues and opportunities.

I apply the principles of trauma-informed care in parenting and family contexts. If desired, I also teach how adopting anti-racist practices within the family unit can contribute to healthier, more supportive relationships. Within the educational context, I help parents and families use insights from my research to engage more effectively with their children's education and collaborate with educators to create a positive learning environment.
