I am a professor and researcher, which are my favorite and most important roles. I cherish the opportunity to teach and learn alongside my students.
Since 2010, I have also been providing consulting and training services, mainly through word-of-mouth referrals. Despite never actively seeking opportunities, I have been fortunate to engage with various organizations seeking my expertise. These sessions are valued by my clients, but they have also been transformative for me. I love extending my unique mix of personal experience (as a former high school educator, as a Black woman, as a college teacher of adolescent development), my research experience (much of what I share is based on my own research, but I pair this research with other commonly taught theories and definitions) and my professional development/continuuing education experience. I engage with my audience because I also study the best ways for folks in the teaching profession and other fields to learn.
Recently, after sessions in 2024, two wonderful and eager individuals, Allison and Jasmine, approached me with a heightened sense of urgency, expressing a strong desire to learn more. Allison, a program coordinator with extensive experience working with at-risk youth, reached out via email in January, emphasizing her eagerness to expand her knowledge. Following a February training session in West Philadelphia, Jasmine, a first-year teacher, sought my social media information to continue learning. When I shared I had none to give, her heart dropped. She insisted on me finding ways to help share more so that she could continue her learning journey. I love Jasmine's tenacity, especially the way she wouldn't let me leave until I reassured her that I would take her information and find a way to stay connected. Hence, the resurrection of this website!
Their urgency has compelled me to explore ways to share my knowledge more widely while maintaining my commitment to my students and academia. Please continue reading to see how organizations have benefited from my services.
