Strategic Planning and Consulting

Career and College Readiness
Navigating the college preparation and planning process can be overwhelming, especially for parents of future college students who may not have extensive experience with higher education or who have student-athletes with unique academic and athletic commitments.
I got into this because of the ways I see so many of my students struggle and sometimes not finish because there is no collaboration between faculty/parents when helping parents figure out how to support their student.
Hiring a professor and academic advisor to consult on college preparation and planning can provide invaluable support and guidance.
Firstly, I bring firsthand knowledge of the academic landscape and expectations at the collegiate level. I can offer insights into course selection, academic requirements, and strategies for academic success.
This expertise is particularly beneficial for students with limited collegiate experience or those pursuing rigorous academic programs.
I am a professor who founded a mentoring and advising program aimed at racially marginalized students. Prior to becoming a professor, I worked as an academic advisor for Division 1 college athletes, mostly basketball players and a few football players. I don't specialize in guiding students through the intricacies of college admissions, or financial aid. However, I can help with career planning and helping families navigate the complex application process. For student-athletes, specifically, I will not provide guidance on NCAA eligibility requirements or recruitment processes, but I do work with athletes on balancing academic and athletic commitments. My goal is to help them succeed in college.
Overall, when hired to consult on college preparation and planning, I do my best to learn about your child and offer personalized guidance tailored to their academic goals, interests, and unique circumstances. This collaborative approach can alleviate stress, maximize opportunities, and empower students to thrive in their college journey.
*Please note that, to avoid a conflict of interest, I will not work with students currently seeking enrollment or currently enrolled at my university.*
*Meetings are offered remotely, primarily through my private Zoom.*
